This magical pendant enables the bearer to see into the darkness, provided of course you are capable of sight, and able to see darkness.  And in so peering into the darkness while holding this pendant you will see - darkness.  That's kinda how it works.  (*Yes, I know Koi are a fresh water fish.  The fish is a koi, and the waves were ocean inspired.)
